Who is Gaby?

Perinatal mental health is my clinical home. I came to it the way a lot of people come to their work — through living it.Becoming a mother showed me how much transition and transformation the experience asks of someone, and how much support that deserves.I work with new, expecting, seasoned, adoptive, and foster moms across birth trauma, NICU experiences, postpartum anxiety and depression, postpartum rage, intrusive thoughts, and grief and loss.I'm certified by Postpartum Support International (PMH-C, PSI11261), and at Antioch I co-created a perinatal mental health certificate track for counselors in training.Counseling survivors of domestic violence is the other thread that runs through my practice.I've spent years in this work, both volunteering and in clinical settings, and it's stayed close to my heart.

I treat trauma using lifespan integration and brainspotting. Both are gentle and body-based. A lot of therapy lives in the logic-and-language part of the brain, but trauma often gets stored somewhere harder to reach by talking alone. These modalities are designed to work with the body to access it. I'll explain more on our consult if you're curious.I'm a fully-licensed mental health counselor in Washington (LH61306791) and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Oregon (C11262).When I'm not working, I'm probably watching Bravo, drinking my millionth cup of cold coffee, rewatching Mad Men, taking a yoga class, geeking out on skincare, going on a family walk, texting with friends, or eating a really good burrito.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never been to therapy before, what can I expect?
The beginning of therapy is a little bit like entering a dark room. It takes a while to find the light switch. Once the light is on, we can start opening doors and windows. A prior client once described therapy as "all the lights turning on." My job is to help you get there.
So, am I going to cry the whole time?
Crying is a human release and at times, cathartic. Absolutely cry if you need to. But I also hope to make you laugh and throw in a few cuss words on occasion. Laughter and an occasional four-letter word can be just as cathartic in my book.
Am I going to be sitting across from someone who just parrots back what I say?
No. I'm an attachment-based, relational therapist, which means I bring myself into sessions. My clinical style is integrative: I pull from attachment, polyvagal, somatic, and behavioral theories, and I tailor what I offer based on what you actually need.
I need coping tools, can you provide them?
Yes. Once we've established a working relationship, I'll draw from behavioral and somatic strategies to give you relief in the short term. Longer-term solutions usually involve a mix of trauma processing, medication (sometimes), and building your own agency for change.
Do you provide collaborative care with other health professionals?
Yes. Count me in as part of the team.
What about referrals and other resources?
Of course. I keep a list and am happy to share names.
